The CHANEL Spring-Summer 2022 Haute Couture show, imagined by Virginie Viard, took place at the Grand Palais Éphémère, in a setting designed by Xavier Veilhan. Sébastien Tellier, author-composer and friend of the House, performed a series of new tracks specially composed for the occasion on oversized instruments, and the Cristal Baschet, a rare crystal organ from the Studio Venezia of the French Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017. The CHANEL Cruise 2021/22 show by Virginie Viard filmed amongst the white limestone expanses of the Carrières de Lumières, a former quarry in the village of Les Baux-de-Provence, in the south of France.

Fall-Winter 2019/20 Haute Couture collection, presented by Virginie Viard at the Grand Palais in Paris

Inspired by movements of French painting, the CHANEL Fall-Winter 2021/22 Haute Couture show by Virginie Viard took place amongst the Neo-Renaissance splendour of the Palais Galliera, City of Paris Fashion Museum.

Behind the scenes, the models do their make-up together and get ready for the show. The Diana Ross track ‘Do You Know Where You’re Going To?’ plays in the intimate atmosphere of the Parisian club Castel.

An evening at the castle — the CHANEL ‘Le Château des Dames’ 2020/21 Métiers d’art show, a contemporary evocation of the Château de Chenonceau, revealed in the presence of Kristen Stewart. The actress and House ambassador will also be the muse for the collection’s campaign.

Chanel is celebrating its 16th Métiers d’Art show this year, honoring the fine craftsmanship that its artisan partners bring to the house’s collections. With a runway show that takes place outside the traditional fashion schedule, each year, Chanel turns to a different location to pay tribute to the workshops that provide the house with everything from lace to silver buttons and fine embroidery work. After Paris last year, Salzburg in 2014 and previous shows in Dallas, Edinburgh, Mumbai and New York, Chanel will be traveling to the Elbphilharmonie in Karl Lagerfeld's hometown, Hamburg. Step inside the ateliers themselves, for the story behind the house's relationship with Lesage, Desrues, Lemarié, Maison Michel, Massaro and the other houses that make up the Métiers d'Art partner network.

The healing power of nature, the need for optimism, the importance of handcraft, the celebratory power of forward-looking fashion: All these things have been constant talking points in Paris for over a week now, but it took Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel to actually bring the vertiginous cliffs and coursing waterfalls of the Gorges du Verdon to the Grand Palais and wrap it all up in a final spectacular word on every point. The scenery—a facsimile of a beauty spot in the South of France—was so naturalistic that a breeze floated along the canyon, blowing off the girls’ clear plastic boaters and setting their extraordinary clothes flowing as they strode on in their thigh-high plastic boots. “Did you feel it?” asked Karl Lagerfeld (rhetorically) afterward. “The molecules from the water, when you breathe them in, it’s very healthy for you! It’s why you feel good in places like this.”

“Reincarnation” is the new short film created and directed by Karl Lagerfeld to accompany the CHANEL Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Métiers d'art collection shown on December 2nd, 2014 in Salzburg. This new short film was the perfect opportunity for Karl Lagerfeld to develop an artistic collaboration with Pharrell Williams, a close friend of the House and personal friend of the designer.
