Fendi - Couture FW 2019/20

The Dawn of Romanity Fendi Couture - The roots of Romanity run deep on the Palatine hill, a cradle of antiquity that rises up above the city, crowning the Seven Hills of Rome. Celebrating Rome in its ageless glory, the Collection unfolds in a symphony of shifting impressions: 54 silhouettes walk the runway and acknowledge Karl Lagerfeld’s 54-year tenure at the house of Fendi. Creative Director: Silvia Venturini Fendi

Couture SS 2022

After making a movie to present his second Fendi couture collection, Kim Jones returned to the runway in Paris on Thursday to unveil his third couture outing for the Italian fashion house. And this season, the designer is still fascinated with Rome, turning to the bones of the ancient buildings dotting the Eternal City to inform the well-constructed garments that are made to last — much like those in the Italian capital. A video of moving clouds was the focal point of the sci-fi-inspired runway, and models stepped onto it as if walking out from the heavens. Religious or not, there was a spiritual, dreamlike quality to their entrances that ties into the idea of Rome as a sacred place. The show notes describe the couture lineup as "an army of empresses whose divine purity is imbued with celestial power." That means high-shine sequins accentuating the vertical lines of strong, fluid silhouettes. The shimmering, warrior-like gowns, many with floor-sweeping trains and high-low hemlines, are so fitted to the body, they give the models an otherworldly appeal.

“It allows a girl to glide.” Kim Jones made this observation of Moodymann’s Shades of Jae, the house track he said he’s long wanted to use in a show—and did this afternoon—after saving it specifically for womenswear. Jones’s comment also applied more broadly to a collection in which a bass line of rigorously curated, classically-flavored silhouettes and color progressions was played against an irresistible decorative sample of archive Antonio López illustrations. This was mixed into the fabric of these clothes and accessories via the radically accomplished artisanal techniques that live at the house of Fendi.

An ode to the Roman landscape, to the eternal beauty of its nature and architecture. Day fades into night as the models twist and turn, mapping the contours of the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana as the building gradually comes to life in a spectacular, pulsing light show, reminiscent of the tropes of early science fiction cinema. Women's fall-winter 2021-2022

Fashion Week runway shows can either veer into a theatrical spectacle or embody a more subdued vibe. For Fendi's Artistic Director Kim Jones, he chose to let the clothes speak for themselves. In his first ready-to-wear collection for Fendi's Fall/Winter 2021 lineup, the British designer rooted his seasonal selections in neutral tones and wearable form-fitting silhouettes. This was purposefully done to evoke a buildable, tailored wardrobe anyone could tap into. In an interview with WWD about his collection, Jones shared that he wanted to make clothes women would want to buy. "I'm not gonna lie. I think that's what my job is. I want all my friends to go, 'I want that straight away,'" he said.

Karl Lagerfeld: "I love to use in a funny way words from the visual web communication world. Very 21st century... Easy perceiving and progressive enhancement of the new Fendi looks. It's a very Roman typeface of Design with a strong ROOT DIRECTORY. No static positioning, things move with ease... Fendi accomplished tool tips of the house's crafts and a strong visual constructivism. The collection is a kind of easy "Dreamwear" (not Dreamweaver...) with the appropriation of all the house's codes. A collection of monochrome color blocks (not blogs...) and an overblow of transferring lines (not files...). An absolute positioning of the Fendi image: Contrasts with visual harmony. It is a kind of eye-tracking statement. Easy perception of the fluid layouts of the cuts. Everything is "hyperlinked": clothes, bags, shoes, accessories... It is a kind of "inline style" like modular design in a display of clear forms and colors..."
